Description
Charming & unique one of a kind 'turn of the century' American primitive conversation piece. Removable cast iron spiral agitator turning wheel-painted black with red highlights. Wooden agitator inside works. Metal carry handles on each side. 2 metal barrel hoops. The wringer is branded Domestic/Anchor/Lovell manufacture comp. 22. This may be the washing machine brand. Not sure of the year but it is similar to the 'Dolly' model in Lee Maxwell's antique washing machine museum dated 1915. Could date anywhere from the late 1800's-early 1900's.Condition: Been stored in dry, smoke free location for almost 40 years. The wood is in VG condition with some character age marks. When I first got it in the 80's I filled it once with water to see how it worked. Since then it has dried out and the glued bottom fell out as well as some of the fitted side slates. The top and bottom and most of the barrel slates are in good solid shape. They fit together like tongue and grove style. Part of the barrel section and bottom need to be reassembled. All the original parts are there and complete. The metal on the agitator inside has rust. There is space for storage inside. Just needs some TLC to bring it back to it's original condition. Measurements: 28 1/2" high(not including wringer); 24" wide top.
