Saginaw Manufacturing Company ( National Washboard’s predecessor ) was founded in 1880s.
It is
the world’s top washboard-making powerhouse, producing roughly 2,500 boards a day in the Saginaw plant.  As the company went international at the dawn of the 20th century, the washboard business needed its own committed management, distribution and marketing team, and this—it appears—is what brought the National Washboard Company into existence.
Both the National Washboard Co. and Saginaw Manufacturing Co. were sold off entirely, but the new company continued to produce boards under the old National brand name into the 1970s, when the machines finally won and all washboard manufacturing ceased.
